  • The Federal AIDS Policy Project Coalition and Prep4All have sent a letter, signed by 100 organizations, urging the House and Senate appropriations committees to approve $400 million to fund a national PrEP program within the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. While this is far short of the $9.8 billion over 10 years that President Joe Biden called for in the Fiscal Year 2023 budget, it's a meaningful start and something that HIV/AIDS advocates believe can be accomplished this year.

  • US federal legislation introduced this month could offer not just clarity, but also a legal remedy for survivors of stealthing. One bill introduced last month would explicitly name stealthing as a form of sexual violence and create a legal pathway for victims to sue perpetrators for damages and relief. A separate bill, called the Consent Is Key Act, would encourage states to pass their own laws authorizing civil damages for survivors by increasing funding for federal domestic violence programs in states that pass those laws.

  • South Africa may be the last country in Africa to gain access to paediatric formulations of the antiretroviral drug dolutegravir as regulatory delays continue. In 2019, South Africa introduced guidelines recommending dolutegravir-based treatment for adults and children about six years and older, depending on weight.

  • A law signed Friday is expected to cut down on HIV infections among the hardest hit groups – Black, Latinx and LGBTQ individuals. House Bill 4439 will allow pharmacists to dispense pre and post-exposure drugs and order labs. A doctor’s order is no longer required under the law, which takes effect immediately. But to order tests, consult and give out medications, pharmacists will need to take a course.
