  • A recent New York Times article argued that the new level of LGBTQ harassment in Africa is an unintended result of increased American support for protective policies and HIV services. The article has prompted many responses from African LGBTQ activists. Paul Semugoma, of Uganda, is one of the many voices arguing against the Times’ depiction of US funding as a liability rather than a lifeline.

  • World AIDS Day 2015 comes at a watershed moment in the fight for the health of people living with HIV and for the health of all citizens. The two are intimately related: HIV has defined the landscape of ambitious, collaborative and innovative responses that marry science, rights, community-based responses and structural change. Ultimately, these responses can be leveraged to improve health everywhere, but only if we continue to make real progress battling HIV.
